That mix produces a particular kind of friction. Potteries firms often run production on systems written years ago, with batch, glaze and kiln records split between a legacy database, spreadsheets and paper travellers on the factory floor. Trade and export customers want stock visibility and order status the business can't easily give them. Meanwhile the city's logistics operators handle goods for national retailers on tight service windows, and the smaller manufacturers compete for the same technical staff that bet365 recruits, so every hour lost to re-keying costs more than it looks.
Versatech is based in Wellingborough, and Stoke is roughly a two-hour drive across via the A14 and M6. Most of our work with Potteries organisations would run remotely, with regular video reviews and shared project boards. For the early discovery work, though, standing on a factory floor or in a dispatch office matters, so we plan to come up for a day to see how things actually move before we design anything.
