Kent is England's gateway to the Continent, so cross-Channel freight, ports and logistics shape much of its economy, alongside fruit and wine growing, three universities in Canterbury and a large commuter and professional base.

COVERAGE MAP

The economy of Kent.

Geography explains a lot about Kent. The Port of Dover and the Channel Tunnel terminal at Folkestone make it the main land route between Britain and mainland Europe, and the M20 and M2 carry that traffic through the county. High Speed 1 links Ebbsfleet, Ashford and the coast to St Pancras, and Bluewater and the Thames-side towns sit close to London. The countryside still earns its 'Garden of England' name, with orchards, hop gardens and a growing number of vineyards. Maidstone is home to Kent County Council, Canterbury hosts the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church, and Kent Science Park at Sittingbourne adds research and lab space.

ACROSS KENT

How Kent differs, place by place.

Our five Kent locations span that range. Maidstone is administrative and service-led, with a large base of professional firms, logistics and med-tech along the M20. Canterbury is a cathedral and university city where tourism, hospitality, education and healthcare dominate. Royal Tunbridge Wells is prosperous and professional, full of financial advisers, insurance firms, estate agents and small consultancies. Folkestone has reinvented itself through its Creative Quarter and harbour arm, and hosts Saga's head office. Gravesend is Thames-side and industrial, close to Ebbsfleet's new development. That means briefs vary from cross-Channel logistics tooling to student-facing booking systems and polished client portals for advisory firms.

Kent is one of the furthest counties we cover from Wellingborough. Depending on the town, it is between two and a half and three hours via the M1, M25 and M20 or M2, so these projects are delivered remotely as a matter of course. We keep momentum through a fixed weekly call, a shared board and a staging site that always shows the latest work. We travel in for discovery, usually a full day on site, and again when it is time to train staff and go live. Visits are planned, not ad hoc, and we are open about that from the first conversation.

SECTORS / KENT

Where Kent's economy meets digital work.

Cross-Channel freight and logistics

Hauliers, customs agents and warehouses around Dover, Folkestone and the M20 deal with border paperwork, booking slots and disruption that can build within hours. Tools that track consignments and documents in one place, alert customers when delays hit and give managers a live picture of drivers and loads are where software earns its keep.

Horticulture, fruit and wine

Growers, packers and vineyards across the Weald and east Kent manage seasonal labour, harvest planning and demanding buyers. Picking and labour records, traceability through packing, cellar-door and wine-club websites and reporting on yield and cost are the typical projects. We build for people working outdoors on phones, often with weak signal.

Education and visitor economy in Canterbury

Canterbury's universities, language schools, accommodation providers and heritage attractions juggle large seasonal intakes and visitor peaks. Booking and enrolment systems, student or guest portals and back-office tools that handle rooms, groups and payments together reduce admin. Accessibility and clear information are essential, as many users are new to the city.

Financial and professional advice

Royal Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone have concentrations of wealth managers, insurers, accountants and solicitors. Secure client portals, onboarding that captures information once and feeds it into practice systems, and automated review and renewal reminders make a clear difference. We design for regulated environments, with audit trails and access controls built in.

QUESTIONS / KENT

Working with Versatech across Kent.

Kent is a long way from Northamptonshire. Is that a problem?+

Not in practice, but we are open about it. Kent projects run remotely, with a regular weekly call, a shared board and a staging site you can use at any time. We come to you for a full discovery day at the start and again for training and launch. You get a small senior team throughout, not handovers between account managers.

Can you help a Kent haulage or customs business with border paperwork?+

We can build tools that organise it: tracking consignments and the documents attached to them, showing status to customers and flagging anything missing before a truck reaches the port. We connect to the customs and transport systems you already use rather than replacing them, and we design for the speed at which things change on the M20.

We run a vineyard in the Weald. What would you build for us?+

Typical projects include a website with online shop and tour bookings, a wine-club system handling subscriptions and shipments, and back-office tools for stock and event management. We start by understanding where your time goes, then build what saves the most, often in small stages so you can sell through the new setup quickly.
