Much of the friction in Rugby is operational. Third-party logistics firms and their subcontractors juggle agency labour, dock slots, vehicle checks and customer SLAs, often across systems that do not talk. Engineering suppliers deal with traceability, quality paperwork and long-lead components for demanding customers. Meanwhile the new Houlton community on the old radio station land and growth at Cawston and Coton Park bring estate agents, trades and service businesses that are scaling quickly and discovering that a spreadsheet and a shared inbox stop working somewhere around the tenth employee.
From our base in Wellingborough, Rugby is one of the easier trips we make, usually around three quarters of an hour across on the A14 or down the M1 and M45. That makes it practical to spend time on a warehouse floor or in a workshop during discovery, then run the build remotely with regular reviews. Training and go-live bring us back on site, particularly where shift teams need showing in person.
