DIGITAL SERVICES / SUFFOLK

Newmarket
Suffolk.

Newmarket is the home of British flat racing: training yards, gallops on the Heath, bloodstock sales at Tattersalls and the specialist vets, farriers and transporters who serve them. Digital work here follows the horse, the owner and the sales calendar.

LOCAL SIGNAL / SUFFOLK

The Newmarket economy.

Before most towns are awake, strings of racehorses are already walking out across Newmarket Heath to the gallops. Racing is not one sector among several here; it is the organising principle. The town has two racecourses, the Rowley Mile and the July Course, and dozens of licensed training yards. Tattersalls runs bloodstock auctions that draw buyers from around the world, and the National Stud sits just outside town. Around them work equine hospitals and vets, farriers, feed merchants, horse transporters, the British Racing School and the National Horseracing Museum at Palace House.

WORKING IN NEWMARKET

What organisations in Newmarket need from digital.

Much of the digital friction comes from running a business around animals rather than desks. Trainers keep daily records on feeding, exercise, treatments and entries, then need to translate them into updates and invoices for owners. Stud farms manage mares, foals and nominations through the breeding season. Sales weeks create short bursts of intense logistics for consignors, agents and transporters. Many of these businesses are family-run, rely on early starts and seasonal staff, and run on a combination of specialist racing software, spreadsheets and messaging apps.

Newmarket is roughly an hour and a quarter from Versatech's base in Wellingborough along the A14, so meeting at a yard or office is easy to arrange. Wellingborough also happens to be home to Weatherbys, racing's long-standing administrator, so the industry is not unfamiliar territory for the town, though we make no claim to work with them. Delivery is remote-first, with on-site sessions for discovery and launch. We don't have a Newmarket office.

PRIORITIES / NEWMARKET

Where digital work pays off in Newmarket.

Keeping owners properly informed

Racehorse owners pay significant training fees and expect regular, personal updates. Trainers and syndicate managers in Newmarket benefit from tools that turn yard notes, videos and race plans into clear owner communication, while invoices, vet charges and entries are presented accurately and consistently.

Better daily yard records

Each horse's feed, exercise, treatment, farrier work and fitness notes matter for welfare and performance. Replacing whiteboards and paper sheets with structured records helps yard staff share information across early and late shifts, and gives trainers a full history of each horse.

Handling sales-week pressure

During major Tattersalls sales, consignors, agents, vets and transporters coordinate inspections, vettings, paperwork and vehicle movements over a few days. Clear schedules, shared documents and simple status tracking reduce the chance of missed appointments or late paperwork when the pressure is highest.

QUESTIONS / NEWMARKET

Working with Versatech in Newmarket.

Do you understand the racing industry in Newmarket?+

We understand how to turn complex, specialist processes into useful software, and we listen carefully to people who know the sport. We do not claim to know training or bloodstock better than those working in it. Discovery sessions at your yard or office help us understand the daily routine, terminology and existing systems before we recommend anything.

Can you connect our Newmarket yard tools with existing racing software?+

Possibly. Some racing and equine systems provide exports or integrations, while others do not. We would first check what your current tools allow, including entries, accounts and owner communication. Where direct integration is not possible, we can design a structured import or a clear manual process that avoids duplicate work.

Can you work around the early starts in a Newmarket training yard?+

Yes. We would arrange visits and workshops for the quieter part of the day, usually after first lot and before evening stables, or at whatever time suits your team. Most project work happens remotely, so the yard's routine does not need to change for us. We also design tools that are quick to use during short breaks.
