DIGITAL SERVICES / NOTTINGHAMSHIRE

Worksop
Nottinghamshire.

Worksop is a north Nottinghamshire distribution and food manufacturing town between the A1 and the M1, with the Dukeries estates on its doorstep. Digital work that matters here keeps sheds, lines and small firms organised and visible.

LOCAL SIGNAL / NOTTINGHAMSHIRE

The Worksop economy.

For decades Worksop was known as the home of Wilko, which ran its head office and a large distribution centre at Manton Wood until the retailer collapsed in 2023. That loss was felt across the town, but the logic that brought Wilko here still holds: the A57 links Worksop to the A1 and to junctions 30 and 31 of the M1, and Sheffield is close. Manton Wood Enterprise Park remains a base for distribution and food production. To the south lie the Dukeries estates, including Clumber Park and Welbeck, while the Chesterfield Canal and the Priory Gatehouse sit close to the centre.

WORKING IN WORKSOP

What organisations in Worksop need from digital.

Much of the local friction sits in shift-based work. Food manufacturers and distribution operators run around the clock with a mix of permanent and agency staff, and need production, labour and traceability records to line up. Smaller suppliers, engineering firms and service businesses that grew up around the larger employers often still depend on a few key people and a lot of spreadsheets. On the estates and in the town, visitor businesses, farm shops and independent traders on Bridge Street work hard for footfall and increasingly need to sell online as well as in person.

Versatech is in Wellingborough, about an hour and three-quarters north up the M1 to Worksop. We run projects remotely day to day, with a named lead and regular reviews, and travel up for discovery, time on the shop floor or in the warehouse, and go-live. We keep phases small and clearly priced so progress is visible early.

PRIORITIES / WORKSOP

Where digital work pays off in Worksop.

Traceability on high-volume food lines

Chilled and ambient food producers around Worksop answer to retail customers who expect full traceability, allergen control and fast answers to any query. Capturing batch, ingredient and quality data at the line, rather than on paper sheets typed up later, strengthens audits and shortens the time needed to respond to a customer or recall.

Labour planning across shifts

Warehouses and factories at Manton Wood and along the A57 run several shifts with changing volumes. Knowing who is scheduled, who has arrived and how productive each shift is lets supervisors adjust quickly and helps managers control agency spend without leaving lines or pick faces short.

Reducing dependence on key people

Many smaller Worksop firms, from engineering subcontractors to service companies, rely on a handful of long-serving staff who know how everything works. Capturing that knowledge in clear processes and simple systems protects the business when people retire or move on, and makes growth less risky.

QUESTIONS / WORKSOP

Working with Versatech in Worksop.

Can Versatech help Worksop food manufacturers with traceability systems?+

Yes. We can build systems that record ingredient lots, batches, allergens, quality checks and dispatches, and link them so you can trace forwards and backwards quickly. We design for use at the line on tablets or scanners and work alongside your technical team to ensure the records support the standards your customers audit against.

How far is Versatech from Worksop?+

We are based in Wellingborough, around an hour and three-quarters by road via the M1. Most project work is done remotely, which keeps costs sensible. We travel to Worksop for discovery, to see your operation at work, and for training and launch, and we build those visits into the plan from the start.

Do you work with smaller Worksop businesses as well as large sites?+

Yes. Many of the organisations that could benefit most are small and medium-sized firms around the town: suppliers, engineering shops, trades, retailers and visitor businesses. We scope work to fit, starting with the problem that costs you most, and we will recommend existing tools where they do the job well enough.
