Designated a new town in 1949, Bracknell was planned around neighbourhoods, industrial areas and roads, and that planning still shows. The Western and Southern Industrial Areas host a mix of technology firms, light manufacturing and trade counters. 3M has its UK headquarters here, Waitrose runs its head office and a major distribution centre on the edge of town, and Dell has long had a large UK presence.
